OH MY GOSH!!.....(kinda long)

Chalked up another "canadian" winter experience tonight. i got the car stuck in snow.

hubby needed some new headphones for when he is on the computer in the livingroom (something we have needed for months now) and i suggested we go out and get them tonight.

we had had quite a bit of heavy snow this afternoon and we werent plowed out yet but it didnt look too bad and neither did the roll at the end of the driveway since the street plows havent been by either. so we both decided to go and get out of the house for bit to buy these headphones.

well....let me tell you.....

after shovelling a path out the frontdoor and around to both sides of the car. then taking off the snow that had covered the car we got in and thought it well be ok.

as we rolled down the driveway i thought the layer was thicker then i thought (at least a foot minimum deep). as we got closer to the roll at the end hubby suggested we take it on fast. i wasnt so sure of that only cuz our car is low to the ground (not like the van we had) and i didnt want to take out our front end if the roll was hard with packed snow and ice chunks.

so i decided to do it at a half way decent speed i thought would get us through it. I WAS WRONG! OMG, we got stuck at the end of our driveway! right at the dip part at the end going into the street. i tried and tried several times to see if i could roll the car back and forth to get out of it but all i was doing was spinning my tires. it was hopeless.....the car was stuck.

out i went to get the shovel by the front door of the house. i start to shovel out the front tires and under the front of the car as much as i could...and put the shovel in the car with us. i get in and try to go again...back and forth we went...i almost thought i was going to have to give up and get out again to shovel some more...i thought i got all out from around the tires.

i got the car to back up some and finally got it to go forward just about over the mess i still had under the car and gosh darn it here come two cars down the street with another coming from the other direction. "crap!" thats all i could think knowing i was almost out of the mess i got us into. so we wait for them to pass and then give it another try. we went back and forth again and again...even moving our bodies forward like it was going to help even the littlest bit...lol

WE FINIALLY GOT OUT!!!! WOHOO! oh my gosh i have never had that experience before in my life. we just laughed as we drove down the street and wondered about driving back in. lol

we get to destination #1 and they dont have any headphones. then we decided to hit another place just next to it but on the other end of the parking lot. so we drive over there and i let hubby out at the door so he doesnt have to walk through the mess and i was to go and park the car and meet him inside.

well.......let me tell you........

i thought doing the right thing was to go around the existing car that were there to turn the car around so we were facing the way we came. all is good and well the guy in the spot i want is leaving and i will pull into that spot and go in. hmmm? i start to make my turn around the parked cars and my cars tires start to spin and im not moving. "oh crap! im stuck again" so i do the reverse the car and back up a bit and then go forward stuff again. but no, i was moving inches each time. along comes this other car....around me he goes and into the spot i was almost in. MOTHER F'R! so i keep trying to get myself moving and into the plowed part of the lot...finally...i did. i thought i was going to burst with frustration after all that. i was sweating and everything.

i parked the car finally and went in. got his headphones and back on the road we went to get home. we we reached our driveway we didnt stop....i made sure i was going pretty good up the drive and i must say i wasnt but a couple inches off from the tracks i had layed when we left.

so....there is it. the first time i have ever had my car get stuck in snow. i have lived here 6 winters now and this is it. lol. i can now say that we both laughed after it was all said and done but during that time....i didnt like it so much. next time we arent going out until the driveway is plowed or i go and at least shovel out the roll at the end.

lesson learned. :)
