What better a time (3:20am) to start part one of my vacation story....
Yep you heard that right....3:20am thursday morning. its just too hot to sleep (hovering about 20c/70f) so i figured why not just get up and do this since i have been home for over a week now since we got home from vacation.
We started off early monday july 2nd so no late night fireworks for us on Canada Day this year. since im the only one that drives i wasnt planning on over doing it and just taking our time getting to each point. our first stop was going to be Edmondston New Brunswick. but on the way we stopped off in Fredericton (we had to) to visit his sister for a hour or so.
once we hit Edmondston we stayed at the Chateau Edmundston for one night. over all it was a nice hotel. we didnt care much for the indoor pool...seemed very old and and needed to be updated. but again...overall it was a nice place.
the next morning we were off to Montreal Quebec to visit with hubbys niece. we arrived there just after noon and enjoyed the afternoon with her and her 4 year old (i have to check that one)daughter. her apartment is on the 12th floor of the building and there is a great view of the Olympic Stadium and town. I have to say i dont miss the traffic of a city one bit. montreal just seem like one big traffic jam the whole time we were there. also, the noice in the city is another thing i dont really miss...but i have to say that it didnt really bother me so much either. it reminded me of the sounds i had back home in california. lots of traffic going by and sirens always happening from either police or other emergency vehicle...and then the helicopters buzzing over often....just like back in L.A. we hung out there until 5pm or so (cant remember) and then headed off to find a hotel to stay somewhere between there and niagra falls.
we ended up staying in a town called Brockville just into Ontario. we stayed at the Quality Hotel just going by our CAA book when we drove into town. if i would have looked this one up online i wouldnt have gone due to the poor rating and comments. BUT...we found the place to be nice. we got ourselves a "1 queen bed suite" that had a seperate room with a pullout couch in it for kiddo. we were quite happy with the bed and pillows which we had a hard time with at the first hotel so we slept great. my only thing about this room that bothered me was the size of the bathroom. it was as big as the closet...you had the shower/bathtub to the left when you walked in and the toilet straight in with the sink to the right. not much room between the sink and shower...two people couldnt be in there at the same time thats for sure. overall....the place was good enough for us that night.
the next morning...wednesday was our day to drive to niagra falls. we were excited to get going early but wanted to get something good for breakfast other then what the hotel offered. so on recommendation from the hotel staff we went to this family owned place that specialized in Italian food for lunch and dinner but served up a good cheap breakfast. why not! it wasnt far from the hotel (on the way back to the highway) and they had great breakfast specials and the food was GREAT! we even ate at the bar counter and chatted with the owner and our waitress who were very nice. she told us to make sure when we were on the highway to stop off at The Big Apple in Colbourne (ontario).
thats me and kiddo infront of the Big Apple during our stop. this place makes their own pies and you can watch it happen if they are making them when you happen to stop in. there is a huge gift shop attached to it with almost everything apple in it as well as a caffateria. you buy their pies for $10 each or you can just buy a slice to enjoy. they offer lots of other stuff to eat if you are in need of a meal on the road. there are also other things to do if you stop there...there is mini golf, petting zoo, small ride ons for the little ones (it was raining when we stopped so nothing was open..but thats ok).
they both got only slushies but I got a piece of apple crumble pie. OMG, it was one of the best apple pies i have eaten.
im ready for the big drive ahead in anticipation of getting to Niagra Falls Ontario Canada.
To be continued.......
