Over protective mom....that's me!....
I will be the first to say im an over protective mom.
when i was a kid i got to go blocks from my house on my bike and my mom didnt even know where i was most of the time until i came home. i was normally at a park or friends house. this was in the 70's. as i got older things changed and not for the better so parents got more protective and wanted to know where we were and when we would be home.
when i had my daughter things were really different from when i was a kid. in the area i lived you didnt let your kids go out without being outside with them supervising or another adult out with them. and never do you let them go out of site blocks away on their own.
well....considering i now live in "small town" im still very over protective about letting her be outside without being able to see/hear her.
since being back from vacation we made a point for her to visiter her friend who lives a good 10-15 minute walk from our place on another street. we made a play date the other day for them to meet at a play ground between both homes...but still wasnt where i was. i know i have to cut the strings a little so i was going to take her there and let them play without "mom" hanging around and be back 1 hour later. when we were going to leave....her friend was coming up our driveway...lol so they played here for a bit but then wanted to go to the park. i nervously said ok and off they went. i let her know she only had 30 more minutes until she had to come in anyway and i would be there to get her then. they did fine..that was tuesday.
yesterday..her friend came over to see if she could play. i was so happy that she and her friend are making time during the summer...she needs to have a friend her age.
they stayed here and played so i wasnt nervous about anything.
today....friend came over again (such a cute kid) and they hung out playing playstation. then they wanted to watch a movie....but the friends needs glasses to do this. so they asked if they could ride bikes down to friends house and get them. i was nervous cuz she has never riden her bike off our little portion of our block. so off they went....took them 14 minutes round trip...i timed it...lol. this friend is a good kid and i trust them....im glad my daughter has a friend like that.
shes growing up and i have to not worry so much...a little is good. but its hard not to worry about her when she gets so distracted by things she forgets things and has no sence of time....her ADHD and other things add to it.
this is a big step for me...and her too. now my next step is to let her go on her own that way sometime *sigh*....we shall see....lol
so hard to be a mom sometimes.
hugs.
