Good food and good movies, two things that can make a good day better. Saturday I was lucky enough to have both. First off, Cali Girl and I decided to take the kidlet to the Starlite diner for some ice cream. When we got there we decided we were hungry and got real food instead. I was feeling hungry and brave (or stupid if you ask Caligirl) and decided to have a Ragtop Burger (not on the online menu). All their meals are named after 50's type things and their decor backs it up. Anyway, to the burger...The pattys are hand made with fresh ground beef, each one weighing 6 ounces. The Ragtop is three pattys (yes 18 ounces of hamburger), three layers of cheese, and at least 3 pieces of bacon on top. It was HUGE. It came with an enormous side of thick cut fries, and some coleslaw...all for $9.00. I managed to eat the whole burger and about 5 fries. Two people could easily make a meal of this. It was very very tasty as well.
On to the movie. As I was lying in bed trying to figure out if you could get "protein poisoning" from eating 18 ounces of meat, we remembered that we had rented a DVD. Actually Cali girl rented it as a surprise for me because I had mentioned that I wanted to watch it. She spoils me. So, we settled in to watch Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle. This movie was fricking High-Larry_ous. We laughed from start to finish. It is a story of two American 20 somethings. One is Korean-American, and the other one is India-American. They get stoned, and while trying to figure out what they want to cure their munchies, a White Castle burger joint commercial comes on, and they have to have that and only that. Along their way they run into skate punks, racist cops, an Asian-American student party at Princeton, and many other weird people and situations, most notably Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser), playing a drugged out, hooker loving, car stealing version of himself. He was a scream.
IMDB gives it an average rating of 7.1 out of 10, and Ebert and Roper had it as their thumbs up DVD release this week. It is rude and crude, not for kids. Much swearing, some boobs, fart jokes, and just general crassnes...but OMG it is a laugh fest. Rent it...NOW!!!!
The ending makes it look like a sequel is pending, but their is nothing announced yet. Don't worry, it isn't a cliffhanger, just a natural opening for another movie.
