just doing my job
Cant win for doing your job the way you are supposed to.
where to start?.....hmmmm..........(names changed to protect the "innocent")
I work as a cashier at a supermarket and i enjoy what i do....except when i get assholes like i did yesterday. as a store we dont accept personal checks but we do accept government and payroll check with photo id. I get this customer that has a loaded cart and when i get done they have a government check...fine......i ask for photo id.....THEY DONT HAVE ONE! so she starts going through her wallet pulling out medical card, social insurnace card...bank card...on and on....while im telling her that i need a photo id. her daughter (who is older then me) is spouting off saying "is Sally here...she knows us"...i told her she was on lunch....."well....Susie knows us"....i told her im sorry but she isnt my supervisor and cant approve this and that i have to have a photo id. her daughter goes out to where Sally is having lunch and raises complains...coming back to tell me that "sally says its ok"...i in turn tell her...that im sorry but i have to have sally tell me this herself because i dont know what was said out there. i go out to the lunch area and she tells me to go ahead and take it....i have her initial the check cuz i dont want it to come back and get me in the end with this not being this persons govn. check. i start walking back and i see all the store watching me come back in including the other works.....found out this persons daughter was making loud rude remarks about me and using profanity...im glad i didnt hear it cuz im sure i would have gotten in load of trouble for going off on her. anyway......i process her check...and wouldnt you know it....im low on cash in my drawer for there change. i end up getting a few hundred from the cashier next to me to cover it to get this pain in my ass out of the store.
what bothers me is that other cashiers that have been there for many years take people checks without id cuz they know them. fine....but if something goes wrong with that check it is the cashier that will have to cover it...and im not going to do that. per my supervisor....i have to have photo id. i cant count how many times i have had customers tell me.........."will....so and so knows us and she takes our check without id"...or "is so and so here?" it makes me want to say every damn time...........if she takes your check without id...then why the fuck didnt you go to her line!?!?! I only do what im told to do!
after that whole thing happened i was just not in the mood to be there anymore. funny how when you follow rules the way you are supposed to you get shit on for doing it. i guess if i have to be the "bitch cashier" then so be it....im just going by the book so i dont get into trouble.
